No Modes Left
follow the gutters up the left side
that's where we lived when you sold the light
the third window in from the 4th street side
couldn't tell us to kiss on another flight

all the reasons that once made sense
have unravelled like they were woven out of strands of dust
like you could weave with some kind of strands of dust
like you could leave any time any time

no modes left
I will not fear this
we've already seen what happens if you don't trust
no modes left
and after all that
everyone knows now what happens if they know you care
if you still remember how to
or if you can get somebody to remind you how to

in the end there's still one thing I don't understand
why was it important that we break apart
seems even easier to bind us whole
one less entropy to organize

but it wouldn't be evil if it made too much sense
if it fit together like a puzzle with edges
why couldn't it have been a puzzle with edges
so it would be clearer now where to start to start

no modes left
and now we're set here
beyond whatever you hoped we'd hate
no modes left
and after all this
we still have a chance to blame you for all this
if we still remember how to
or if we can get somebody to remind us how to

in this city in the dark I will try to see you spun in lights
and in this moment of resurrection maybe you won't close your eyes
and the doors through that hide where the shadows spend their nights
will let us down from these imaginary heights

follow the river to the fourteenth bridge
where our charters are marked on the newest line
what we built out of luck we'll recast with stone
and maybe these arches clear our fears this time

all the reasons that once made sense
are still the reasons that we wove out of blood and love
or maybe our blood was just this water at dusk
and maybe our love is enough to trust to trust

no modes left
i still believe this
we've already been here to now come home
no modes left
do you still want this
I think we still remember how to
I think we just need to stop telling ourselves not to
I think we can stop telling ourselves not to
