The Weight of Accumulated Sky

she waits like an assassin assessing your skin
she's got a hundred ways out and you a lifetime of ways you fell in
but her apologies shimmer like they're drawn out on icicle veins
and in these moments together, you'll dance like the universe knows
like we've gathered to tell the same stories of how it will go
only to find that the morals unravel ahead of your eyes
and you're dreaming of reticent awe and the weight of accumulated sky
something fills in where the buildings were holding your breath
her hand's in your memory her blades at the side of your neck
she's got a hundred deceptions but you have the book of all souls
you've got a cellphone and algebra and the half that made half of this whole
and in these moments together, you'll dance like the universe knows
like we've only been waiting for this plot to unravel and let go
she's holding strands you once stole from a tapestry of penitent kings
and you're dreaming of what she would look like unwrapped from these bandages and rings
she's a sentinel turning, her eyes are the holes in your days
surfaces move under armor, you're a clockmaker's silent belays
and this is half of your problems but so too how you discover your names
in these moments together we'll dance like the universe knows
like we know the same stories of how this eventually goes
and the transient measures we've held up to mark time alone
are us dreaming of reticent awe and the weight of accumulated sky

in these moments together we dance like the universe knows
and we tell the same stories of how this inevitably goes
and the last hope of heartbreak the guilt from our remedies knows
is that we can't lift this moment out from under the weight of accumulated sky
